Must have been an intense moment when Jesus asked the disciples “Who do people say that I am?” Obviously St. Peter had the correct answer. We want to be like St. Peter—to profess, “You are the Christ.” However, like St. Peter, we recognize that we are not perfect. We all make mistakes, we mess up, we sin. There is a way out—forgiveness.
God forgives us. We need to forgive ourselves and each other. Beginning in our home, countless are the times that we have to let go of old hurts. Yesterday is past, can never be redone. We can learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat them. Each day brings new opportunities—new life—chance to start again.
Speaking of starting again. The new school year is off and running. Winter Texans are about to return. Summer is over and we are in the “work mode” again. Bishop Flores is knocking at our door and asking us to participate in the Annual Diocesan Campaign. Our Parish ranks as one of the top contributors in money, but not in number of participants. Therefore, we need to increase the number of families that contribute. The amount you give is not important. What is important is that you give something. Show that you are a faithful Catholic and member of the Diocese of Brownsville as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. Let’s not rely on the few generous people who have represented us over the years. Envelopes are in the pews—take one home or give today and put it in the 2nd collection. Here’s our chance to declare our Faith—to say to the Lord, “You are the Christ. Everything I have is yours. I want to be part of my Diocese.”
