Altar & Rosary SocietyThe Our Lady of Sorrows Altar & Rosary Society was reactivated June 2, 2011, at the request of Msgr. Gustavo Barrera. The Altar Society is open to all persons from the parish. No special talents are needed, just LOVE for our Lord. The Society started with 10 very dedicated ladies and has now grown to 21 special members. There are several ladies who work but are still able to give their time to Our Lord. The Society’s mission is to make the Lord’s altar beautiful and to pray the rosary.
The Society meets on the first Thursday of the month at 1:30 pm in the parish office conference room. We pray the rosary before each meeting and lead the rosary four times during the year at 3:15 pm on Saturday before the 4:00 pm Holy Mass. During the first two years of existence, the Society has bought new linens for the altars in the main church and the chapel and made linens for the tables around the churches. We wash the altar servers’ robes, the altar linens, and the pacificators used at for Communion; we also clean the altars and change the altar cloths. Socially, the Society celebrates Msgr. Barrera’s and Father Koday’s birthdays and ordination anniversaries by taking them out to dinner. We meet socially when a member has a birthday by going out to dinner. We offer a Mass for the living and deceased members of the Society once a year. We also attend Holy Mass once a year as a group and receive corporate communion. All people willing to give the Lord 30 to 45 minutes a week will find great reward in joining the Altar & Rosary Society. The Society also accepts money donations to buy linens and other altar items. Those who donate money to purchase altar linens will have their names embroidered on the linens to acknowledge their contribution.
