![]() Baptism Baptisms take place six times a year and take place on weekend masses. Parents are allowed to choose which Mass they would like to baptize during the registration process. This is done on a first come first serve basis. Those who do not live within our parish boundaries, must bring a letter of permission from the parish you belong to in order to baptize at our parish community. No baptisms take during Advent or Lent. For more information on guidelines and classes, please call the office. Reconciliation Confessions are heard in the Main Church 10:30a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and in the Chapel, Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Parish-wide Penance Services are held during Advent and Lent. For information on receiving First Reconciliation, contact the parish office. First Communion Children: To receive First Communion, the student must undergo 3 years of religious education administered by the CCD program. The average age to enroll children for First Communion classes begins in the first grade and they will continue their religious education towards receiving communion until the third grade. Confirmation In our diocese, young people will usually receive Confirmation in the tenth grade. Students that wish to received the Sacrament of Confirmation need to attend two years of instruction held at the parish prior to the ceremony. The student must also have been baptized and have received First Communion. For more information call the CCD office. Matrimony Current parishioners and their children are welcome to be married at Our Lady of Sorrows. (A bride and groom not registered as a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows may be married at this parish only with proper permission from their home parish.) Please note that the Diocese of Brownsville requires a six to twelve month period of preparation prior to wedding. Weddings at Our Lady of Sorrows are held in the Chapel and may be scheduled up to one year in advance. Marriage is the unique sacrament where you and your spouse make the complete and irrevocable gift of yourselves to one another. Our Lady of Sorrows parish looks forward to assisting you, particularly as you reflect on the sacramental character of marriage in light of your own relationship. RCIA Our parish welcomes adults interested in joining the Catholic faith by inviting them to participate in the RCIA program (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). This program usually begins in October and reception into the Church takes place during the Easter Vigil. If you are an adult needing to be baptized, confirmed, and/or receive your First Communion, this program will assist you in continuing or starting your journey through Catholicism. Anointing of the Sick Parishioners can call the parish office to request this sacrament. Reception of this sacrament should not be viewed as for those only in immediate danger of death. Group or communal anointings will be announced in the weekly bulletin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Communion to the Sick Parishioners who are unable to attend Mass but wish to receive communion are urged to call the parish office and arrange for the Holy Eucharist to be brought to them at home. Funerals Funerals or Memorial Masses can be arranged through the funeral home of your choice or by calling the office directly. Annulments If you are awaiting the decision of the Marriage Tribunal regarding a possible annulment, please wait until you have received your final papers. Parishioners desiring information about an annulment are urged to contact the parish office. |
